Full Upper Impression

It is very important that we receive a FULL maxillary die stone model that includes all tissue attachment information with the peripheral roll borders, along with a mandibular opposing model. An alginate impression is best (Jeltrate®, normal set, not fast set) for this since the material adheres well to a moist surface.

DO NOT USE PLASTIC TRAYS when taking FULL MAXILLARY impressions for Full Custom Mouthguards™.  Taking a full maxillary impression is arguably one of the most difficult impressions to take in the oral cavity, it appears to be easy, and unfortunately, it has become one of the most abuse techniques in dentistry. Dental Guardz Laboratory continues to work and educate dentists, athletic trainers, and amateur and professional full contact athletes in and beyond our community. To fabricate a FULL CUSTOM MOUTHGUARD™, we start with accurate impressions; diagnostic casts and construction bite. Anytime you send a FULL and ACCURATE MAXILLARY MODEL with a mandibular opposing model and a construction bite, you will get a better result because the technician has more to work with.

See mouthguard requirements and clinical instructions for more details.

If for some reason your dental office does not have any metal trays, use a monophase (not heavy body) vinyl polysiloxane material with light body with your disposable plastic trays. This just happens to be the same clinical technique for invisible braces but, and again, you will need to take a FULL MAXILLARY impression.
